The research department welcomes new changes as it will now be headed by another high caliber faculty, this time coming from the Engineering Department.

Dr. Alking Basamot Gorospe ,30, a registered Mechanical Engineer is a proud product of Aurora State College of Technology. He is part of the graduating class of 2008. Not long after his graduation, he became member of the teaching arm of ASCOT.

<!–more—>

While having fun influencing the future engineers as a member of the academe, some time in 2011, an opportunity to study abroad knocked his door and with full enthusiasm the young engineer grabbed it. He burned long hours of studies that normally ranges from 9 am to 11 pm in laboratories.  Beside him are all the tools that all engineers dream of, screws of different shapes and sizes, welding tool, cutting tools…. name it! “The only limit in learning will be you and your creativity” as he describe it. Andong National University has been his second home, a widely known college in South Korea especially in engineering.

Soon after successful defense and publication he received his diploma as Master of Science in Mechanical Design & System Engineering  last July 2013 as a scholar.

In his search for excellence, he further honed his craft in the same university by taking up Doctor of Philosophy Major in Mechanical Design & System Engineering and received his hood of confirmation last July 2016.

The road to PhD in Andong National University is not as easy path as requires at least one international publication for Masters Degree and another two international publication for Doctorate, but he took the challenge and responded with more than double the required publication.

Some international publications under his name were, IC-Strain PERFORMANCE OF REBCO COATED CONDUCTOR TAPES UNDER LOW MAGNETIC FIELD (2016) ,ELECTROMECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF SINGLE-SIDE BRASS FOIL LAMINATED COATED CONDUCTOR TAPES AT 77 K UNDER SELF-FIELD, INFLUENCE OF EDGES GEOMETRY ON THE DELAMINATION STRENGTH OF REBCO CC TAPES USING ANVIL TEST METHOD , ELECTROMECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF COATED CONDUCTOR     TAPES  (2015), REVERSIBLE STRAIN RESPONSE OF CRITICAL CURRENT IN DIFFERENTLY PROCESSED GDBCO COATED CONDUCTOR TAPES UNDER MAGNETIC FIELDS published year 2015

On top of those, he was able to deliver academic paper presentation in International Conferences such as in 2016 SUMMER CONFERENCE OF KISAC  (july 8, 2016), INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MAGNET TECHNOLOGy  lOct 21, 2015 with his paper MECHANICAL PROPERTY EVALUATION OF COATED CONDUCTOR TAPES UNDER TRANSVERSE TENSION, 2014 APPLIED SUPERCONDUCTIVITY CONFERENCE , 26TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON SUPERCONDUCTIVITY  , and 7TH MECHANICAL AND ELECTROMAGNETIC EFFECTS IN SUPERCONDUCTORS (MEM) WORKSHOP  in March  2013.

His doctorate paper is a research about “Superconductity” that aims to produce a material that have zero(0) resistance for efficient transmission of electricity . This might just be a game changer in the engineering and technology field in the years to come. He work under the mentorship of a known Researcher named Hyuhng-Seop Shin, who took him under his wings as he worked on his project.

After his successful journey in South Korea, he went back to serve his Alma Matter, Aurora State College of Technology last September 2016.  More than the academic expertise and the international research publications under his belt, he also serves as an inspiration to the youth students of ASCOT, be it engineering or other courses. He was also the newly designated Research Director of the College.

Asked what he would bring to the table, he responded “I will do my best to empower the different department in their research endeavors by giving them equal opportunities and hopefully in producing international publications.”

Dr. Alking Gorospe is now happily married with one child.
